"World Cerebral Palsy Day"
By Bethany Light, Leader of the Cerebral Palsy Group
While March is National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month (in the United States), early October is the home to World Cerebral Palsy Day. The goal of World Cerebral Palsy Day is social change of, by, and for the cerebral palsy (CP) community. The organizers behind the World Cerebral Palsy urge and equip people to make changes in several main areas: public awareness, civil rights, medical/therapeutic areas, quality of life, and education. The organizers also have a place where you can contribute financially, socially, through art and music, and/or politically.
The organizers of the World Cerebral Palsy Day call it the “I Am Here” campaign, and they offer several tools to help you out if you want to join. They allow you to use their logo, posters, and tons of other downloadable media. They ask you to post a picture of yourself or friends on social media with your “I Am Here” story, and to help raise awareness through sharing how CP impacts you or the people you care about. And of course, they’re open to any suggestion for improvement or ideas to help the campaign.
More than just an awareness day, World Cerebral Palsy Day is an opportunity to:
The project is coordinated by the World Cerebral Palsy Initiative, a group of non-profit cerebral palsy organizations with a global vision to create real change for people living with CP. Find out more about the campaign and how you can get involved at https://worldcpday.org/!
