About Us: Siblings with a Mission: International Society for Support and Awareness
Do you have a sibling with special needs?
|
Siblings with a Mission is an international organization where siblings of individuals with special needs can receive support and exchange stories with others. We serve both siblings and sibling supporters (parents, grandparents, friends, health care providers, professionals, etc.) of all ages and all backgrounds.
Siblings with a Mission offers support through our story columns where siblings and families can share stories and exchange insights with others, a resource database where members can connect with other organizations and resources, a monitored web and video chat forum where siblings can connect with others who share similar experiences, and sibling workshops and family conferences that we host around the world. The organization offers siblings an opportunity to share suggestions, raise awareness, and make friendships with others who understand. With an emphasis on providing support and spreading awareness of disabilities, our platforms enable an exchange of perspectives that can help siblings through occasionally difficult times at home as well as show the public what it's like to live with someone who is "different." We wish to inspire siblings and families to use their stories to provide support, raise awareness, and make a difference. But most of all, we strive to encourage siblings to have fun and make the best of every moment with their brother or sister. Please join us today, and let's make a difference together. |
Who Are Siblings?
The term sibling refers to anyone who has a brother or sister (or similar relationship) with a person affected by special needs. If you are a sibling of an individual with a physical, intellectual, developmental, or related disability, this organization is for you! Throughout this website, we will use the term “sibling” to define siblings of individuals with special needs.
A sibling supporter is anyone who offers support to siblings of individuals with special needs. Sibling supporters include family members, friends, teachers, doctors, professionals, and anyone who supports the Mission Statement of Siblings with a Mission. If you are a sibling supporter, please feel free to join our organization. We work together with sibling supporters to increase support for siblings.
Siblings and sibling supporters are more than welcome to join Siblings with a Mission as we work together to achieve our goal of offering support and guidance to siblings in every country. To become a member, click here.

Why Create Siblings with a Mission?
Created by Nathan Grant in 2015, Siblings with a Mission is an international organization that serves and supports siblings who have brothers or sisters with special needs. Nathan Grant is the twin brother of Nik Grant who was diagnosed with a rare genetic lysosomal storage disorder known as Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) II Hunter Syndrome at the age of three. Inspired by Nik, Nathan joined and participated in family support conferences. While attending a family conference, Nathan realized there are not many support groups for siblings.
Many siblings and parents want to receive support and stay in contact with others who have similar experiences. Without a strong network of support, many siblings can face difficult emotions such as anger, sorrow, and disappointment. Siblings are in need a support system where they can receive suggestions to live with challenging situations. Siblings need to know that they are not alone. Recognizing this, Nathan decided to create Siblings with a Mission - an online organization where siblings can receive support whenever and wherever.
Online, international, and available 24/7, Siblings with a Mission strives to offer support, spread awareness of special needs, and inspire siblings and families to use their unique stories to make a difference. Join us today and let's serve the special needs community together.
