Siblings with a Mission: Story and Article Procedure
Here are some guidelines for writers. This page outlines our procedure for publishing stories. Thank you for sharing your story!
I. Guidelines for Sharing Your Story
Step 1) Write a Story
i. Your story can be about personal experiences, information you wish others would know, current research in the disability field, resources and support programs in the special needs community, and more. Remember: Our goal is to offer support and spread awareness of what it is like to have or live with someone who has special needs. Any story you write will be helpful. Your story does not need to be long and can be written in any style you wish. Please refer to our Story and Article Ideas page for examples of stories to write.
Step 2) Include a title for your story.
Step 3) Please include a picture related to your story, if possible. The picture can be one of you, your sibling, or one of you with your sibling. You may also use a picture you find on Google. If you use a picture of you or someone you know, we will ask you to sign a quick Story and Photo Release Form. If you use a picture or information from an outside source, please include a citation or citation link.
Step 4) Send all stories to [email protected]. Send stories as attached documents or in the body of the email message.
Step 5) We will review your article based only on appropriateness. We will not edit for grammar or vocabulary. We understand these are emotional topics, so we will review for appropriate content because these articles will be posted online and on social media. We will not grade or rate on grammar, style, or vocabulary, but we encourage you to write articles that will help other siblings.
Step 6) Once we review your article, we will email a proof (document) of your article for review before we publish. We will also send you a Story and Photo Release Form. If we have suggestions, we will send our suggestions to you via email.
Step 7) Review your article and confirm via email whether we can publish your article on our website.
Step 8) Email us your signed Story and Photo Release Form Story
Step 9) With your permission, we will publish your article in the appropriate section(s) of our website and on social media
Step 10) Please share your article with others via email, social media, or an equivalent method

II. Guidelines for Sharing an Outside Story
We also publish stories written by people outside of Siblings with a Mission. These may be stories that you find inspirational, informational, and relevant to the sibling community.
Step 1) Find a story or article that you think will help siblings in our community
Step 2) Copy the words of the story or article in a document (Word Document or equivalent) or email message. Make sure to cite the story or article with a link!
Step 3) In the document or email message, write any comments about the story (such as a paragraph or two). What did you like about the story? What did you learn? How will this story help other siblings? Why is this story important? Please include a title for your story.
Step 4) Send us the story and your comments as an attached document or in an email message. Please email all stories to [email protected].
Step 5) We will review your article based on appropriateness, and if we have any suggestions, we will send our suggestions to you via email.
Step 6) Once we review your article, we will email a proof (document) of your article for review before we publish. We may also send you a Story and Photo Release Form.
Step 7) Review your article and confirm via email whether we can publish your article on our website.
Step 8) After we get your permission, we will publish your article in the appropriate section(s) of our website and social media.
