"Forever Joyful"
By Louise van den Bergh, Leader of the Down Syndrome Group
Her laugh is that of a child’s,
sweet and soft,
like the sound of tinkling bells
echoing through our home,
with a voice that demands to be heard,
and a presence that demands to be felt.
Her energy is lively, boisterous.
A spirit of youthfulness-
innocence that will never die.
With a smile as sweet as honey,
And a friendliness hard to forget.
Her hug is that of a teddy bear,
warm and comforting.
A sense of your childhood-
coming back to you,
With a painful stubbornness,
And a determination,
for life to go precisely the way she wants it to.
She embodies a delicate nature,
a sensitivity to raised voices.
She embodies strength,
an ability to maintain her joyful being.
She, with mousey blonde hair
And light blue eyes,
She is my sister.
